Bargain Booze: Find Your Nearest Store and Opening Hours Today
Bargain Booze is a chain of off-licences specializing in competitively priced alcohol, soft beverages, e-cigarettes and confectionery. Stores typically have fridges with a wide selection of beers, wine, alcopops, and popular spirits. Some stores offer snacks and groceries.
Established more than thirty years ago, it is now the largest chain of off-licences in the UK, operating a network of franchises. The retailer is owned by Bestway and operates under several names, including Bargain Booze Select Convenience and Thorougoods.
Opening times can vary significantly depending on your location. Generally, most locations are open from 10 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. You are advised to check the Bargain Booze opening times of your local branch as there can be regional differences.
On national holidays such as New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas, Boxing Day, and bank holidays, the opening times often vary.
Although the chain has more than 570 stores across the UK, it's particularly strong in the north of England, especially the northwest. Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester and Liverpool have the highest number of branches.
All the stores are easy to identify as they have a deep red background contrasted with gold lettering. The Thorougoods franchise is slightly different but equally recognizable, with white lettering on a racing green background.
With hundreds of stores around the country, most people have seen this off-licence retailer on the high street. Many may even have popped in for a bottle of wine or some beer. However, there's more to this company than just the sale of alcohol. Here are five interesting facts:
- Founded in 1981: The company was established by Allan Whittle and Robert Mayor in Sandbach, Cheshire.
- Largest Off-Licence Chain: It became the largest chain of off-licences in the UK, operating primarily through franchises.
- Head Office in Crewe: Their customer service department is in Crewe, where their head office is located.
- Acquired by Bestway: In April 2018, Bestway acquired the company after the previous owner went into administration.
- Multiple Fascias: The chain operates under several fascias, including Bargain Booze Select Convenience and Thorougoods.
As their name suggests, the retailer sells alcohol at competitive prices, aiming to be one of the cheapest on the market while still retaining quality. Despite being a franchise, all of the stores offer a great selection of alcoholic beverages, including spirits, wine, beer, cider, lager, alcopops, and shots. They particularly offer value on larger packs and boxes of alcohol, such as boxes of beers. Multi-offer specials can also be found regularly across the whole range of alcohol they sell.
In addition to alcohol, they also sell soft drinks, e-cigarettes, snacks, and groceries. The amount of these items sold varies depending on the particular outlet, as some offer a wider range of supplementary foodstuffs than others. In every store, however, you will find crisps, confectionery, and other snack-size edibles.
