The retailer sells home improvement goods in several categories, with over 18,500 products! These include bathroom items, flooring, doors and windows, tiles, paint, garden supplies, lumber, screws, and tools.
They offer a wide variety of options in each home category. You can find sinks, tiles, cabinets, appliances, decor, taps, and accessories in the kitchen category alone. They also have showrooms, so customers can see what specific products will look like in a room. As a do-it-yourself headquarters with many different tools and materials—from lumber to drills to nails and screws—it is a mecca for people who want to customize their homes.
In 1854, Henry Dunn Wickes founded the store in Michigan, US. In 1972, the company opened its first store in the UK. By 1987, it had entered the London Stock Exchange and had more than 41 locations.
Over the years, the business has experienced tremendous growth. As of October 2000, it had 131 stores, which soared to 172 in March 2004. This growth also birthed the rebranding of several stores to Focus DIY. By 2017, the company grew to more than 200 stores in the UK alone.
However, in 2016, it announced store closures due to 'uncertain trading'. As of 2018, the company began reducing its office employees by one-third to reduce costs.
